Shikhar Dhawan fell just ten runs short of his double ton and a record 253-run second wicket stand came to an end just before Tea as India tormented the Sri Lanka attack on the first day of the Galle Test. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are at the crease and a lot of fireworks are expected from the Indian batsmen against a poor bowling attack. Sri Lanka looked stiff with just four bowlers on a benign pitch and Abhinav Mukund's breakthrough early on was their lone moment of happiness till Lunch and now Shikhar Dhawan's wicket just before the second session must have given them a sigh of relief. 

Earlier, Hardik Pandya was included in the playing XI and got his Test cap from captain Virat Kohli. Kuldeep Yadav surprisingly has been dropped. While Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav are the two fast bowlers in the team, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will take care of the spin bowling.

Suzie Bates, who already started the series on a flying note with her second World Cup century, has further reasons to celebrate. Suzie, who began her cricketing career at the age of 18 against India at Lincoln, will become the 8th New Zealand cricketer to complete 100 ODIs. Along with her, Amy Satterthwaite also started off the tournament on bright note with a fifty. However, the youngster Amelia Kerr is slowly building her name and making the opportunity count. She was the one who broke the growing partnership between Chamari Atapattu and Chamari Polgampola in the first match of the tournament. Along with her, Holly Huddleston grabbed the eyeball with her maiden World Cup 5-for. With a strong team in place, the White Ferns will hope to continue the momentum against stiff competitors like South Africa.

The Protea women, on the other hand, had shaky start to the year. They ended up as runners-up against India on two occasions – in the final of World Cup Qualifiers and final of the quadrangular series at home. However, South Africa would want to avoid another last-minute thriller as seen against Pakistan. Their power-packed openers like Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt along with all-rounder Shabnim Ismil as well Ayabonga Khaka and Moseline Daniels will look to maintain their consistency against the big three teams – New Zealand, England and West Indies this week.

England vs South Africa, Live Cricket Score

After their disappointing campaign in the just-concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2017, South Africa face a chance of redemption against England in a three-match T20 International series. The Proteas captain AB de Villiers, who has been scrutinized for his performance with the bat, sees the series against England as an opportunity for the South African side.

After winning the inaugural Champions Trophy in 1998, South Africa are yet to clinch their second ICC one-day title. Despite having top ODI players like Hashim Amla, Kagiso Rabada, Faf du Plessis and De Villiers, South Africa could only manage to register a win against Sri Lanka in their group games.

“It was a tough few days after the Champions Trophy, to go through that phase of reflecting and to hear some of the criticism. It’s never easy but I have always been the kind of guy to see the positive in that and see an opportunity to improve. These three matches give me that opportunity as a player and as a captain for the team,” de Villiers told ahead of the three-match series opener in Southampton.

De Villiers has had a lean run but he insists that he is in good touch and simply was a victim of poor luck. In three matches, the right-handed batsman could only manage 20 runs.

“I don’t feel like I need to prove anyone wrong or prove something to someone. I just want to go play,” he said.

Before coming into the Champions Trophy, South Africa had suffered a 2-1 loss to England in a three-match ODI series.

“I feel like a youngster starting my career again. I am really full of energy and love playing. I just want to score some runs again and captain the team to a few good wins. I feel like I am playing very well. There’s nothing wrong with my form. The results are not showing,” he concluded.
